Making a meaningful impact

Ready to make a meaningful impact in someone's life while discovering a sense of belonging? Yun Yun, from Richmond, joined Learn English at Home (LEAH) as a volunteer tutor in 2023. Yun Yun's journey exemplifies the transformative experience of breaking language barriers and fostering connections.

“Being a newcomer from Hong Kong, I knew how learning English could be a big challenge for people who come from abroad. “

Yun Yun, a non-native English speaker, understands the struggles faced by newcomers adapting to a new language. Driven by a desire to make a difference, she embarked on her volunteer journey with LEAH as a volunteer tutor.

“Even before I started volunteering, I already learnt a lot during the 6 weeks’ training conducted by LEAH. Not only did I gain knowledge of how to teach English, I also got tons of resources and support from LEAH and its staff, and I got to know some peer volunteers.”

And she continues to feel supported every step of the way through support from LEAH staff and through the provision of ongoing training.

Working with her students brings Yun Yun immense joy and satisfaction as she witnesses their English skills flourish with every lesson. Despite volunteering online, she feels a deep sense of belonging within the LEAH community.

“I feel a sense of belonging in LEAH, which is very important for me, as someone who has newly moved from Hong Kong to UK.”

Ready to be part of something bigger? Volunteer with LEAH and become part of our community!
